Liantan Activity Center

Liantan Activity Center / Tainan

The architect said that The buliding sits right on the border between urban living and nature. A diagonal axis naturally splits the area into two: one side facing the city and the other overlooking the wide Pond.

Since the building sits directly on this axis, we wanted to avoid a solid barrier. By softening the edges of the balconies and opening up the vertical walkways, we created a sense of transparency. Curved elements at the ground level lead you up to the second-floor terrace, where the view opens up to the landscape. It’s a transition from a city street corner, climbing through the architecture to reach a fresh vantage point of nature.

Working within a limited public budget, we focused on creating extra "empty space" where people can move freely and see through the building. Our goal was to give this public project a stronger sense of community and openness.

Harmony of Structure, Shadow, and Play

More than just an activity center, the architecture seamlessly connects to the outdoor children's play area. With natural tree shadows and views of the lake, it's a place where both parents and children can relax."

Defining the Edge: The Curved Louver Screen

Facing the lake, one of this building's greatest highlights is this curved louver screen. From this specific vantage point, it fully captures and expresses the architect's core design philosophy.

Connecting with the Community

A view from the terrace looking down at the park. The curved railing frames the everyday lives of the people below, creating a natural dialogue between the building and those who use the public space around it.

The Dialogue Between Structure, Street, and Park

I deliberately captured this aerial view to show how the balcony responds to the street and the park walkways. It clearly demonstrates the architect’s observation of the site and the goal of blending the building into the environment.

Visual Continuity between Interior and Exterior

"This shot captures the spacious interior and the ceiling design, which uses simple materials to echo the shape and color of the outdoor balcony grills. It makes the space feel rich and layered while ensuring the main focus remains on the lake view outside."
